5 Shopee Listing Mistakes That Are Costing You Sales

If your Shopee listings aren’t getting the clicks and orders you expect, the problem is almost always one of five fixable mistakes. These aren’t about your product being wrong or your price being too high — they’re about how the listing is written and structured. Fix them and your search visibility goes up immediately.

Mistake 1: Your title starts with your brand name instead of the keyword

The most common Shopee listing mistake among PH sellers is this: the title opens with the brand name or store name, and the actual product keyword shows up later — or not at all.

Example of the wrong structure: “KarenShop Vitamin C Serum 30ml Brightening”

What Shopee’s algorithm sees: the word “KarenShop” in the most weighted position, and “Vitamin C Serum” buried further in.

The right structure puts the primary keyword first — the term buyers are actually searching — and the brand name either last or not in the title at all (your store name is already visible under the listing).

Correct structure: “Vitamin C Serum 20% Ascorbic Acid Brightening Whitening Anti-Dark Spot Face Serum 30ml”

This title leads with the keyword, includes the product type and key specs, and uses the full 120 character limit. Shopee weights the first 40 characters most heavily, so every word in that opening section is working harder than anything in the middle or end of the title.

Mistake 2: Fewer than 15 search tags are filled

Shopee allows up to 15 search tags per listing. Most sellers fill in two or three and leave the rest blank. Every empty tag slot is a missed opportunity to appear in a search result.

Search tags tell Shopee what searches your product should appear in beyond the exact words in your title. A correct tag strategy uses:

  • Synonyms for your product type (“earbuds,” “earphones,” “TWS,” “airpods”)
  • Key specs buyers search by (“Bluetooth 5.3,” “ANC,” “wireless”)
  • Use cases (“WFH,” “gym,” “commute”)
  • Compatibility terms (“Android,” “iPhone,” “laptop”)

Use Shopee Seller Center’s keyword research tool to find which tags have the highest search volume in your category, then fill all 15 with the best ones.

Mistake 3: The description is one long paragraph

Most buyers on Shopee are shopping on their phones. When they open your listing, they’re looking at a small screen while doing something else. A description written as one solid block of text — no line breaks, no bold text, no structure — reads like a wall.

Buyers skim. They look for:

  1. What exactly is this product (specs, size, material)
  2. What will it do for me (benefit)
  3. Why should I trust this seller (warranty, returns, reviews)

Break your description into short paragraphs or bullet points that make it easy to scan those three things quickly. Bold the most important specs. Put your strongest selling point in the first two sentences, where it’s visible before the buyer taps “see more.”

Mistake 4: No lifestyle context in your product photos

This isn’t strictly a copy mistake, but it affects conversion so directly that it belongs in this list. Shopee’s algorithm also factors in click-through rate and conversion rate into search ranking — listings with higher conversion rates tend to rank better over time.

Most listings on Shopee show only product-on-white-background photos. Those tell buyers what the product looks like. A lifestyle photo showing the product in use — worn, cooked with, placed in a room, held by a person — tells buyers what their life looks like with the product in it.

That emotional connection is what closes the gap between “I like this” and “add to cart.”

Mistake 5: Shipping attributes left blank

Shopee uses shipping weight and package dimensions to calculate shipping fees. When those fields are blank, Shopee often defaults to an estimate that doesn’t match the actual product — which can mean incorrect shipping fees showing to buyers, and sometimes orders that fail at fulfillment because the weight doesn’t match.

Beyond shipping fees, complete attributes also improve your listing’s completeness score, which is a ranking signal Shopee uses in its search algorithm. A listing with all attributes filled — shipping weight, dimensions, brand, material, color, size — is treated as higher quality than one with empty fields.

Go through your Seller Center listing edit screen and fill in every field that applies to your product. It takes ten minutes per listing and the ranking improvement is immediate.

All five of these mistakes are fixable in the same afternoon. Start with the title — that’s the highest-impact change you can make — then work through the tags, description structure, and attributes. Frequently asked questions

How important is the Shopee product title for search ranking?

The title is the most important field for Shopee search ranking. Shopee's algorithm reads your title first and weights the first 40 characters most heavily. If your primary keyword doesn't appear within the first 40 characters, you are giving that ranking signal to competitors whose titles start with the keyword.

Do I need to fill all 15 Shopee search tags?

Yes. Each unfilled search tag is a missed opportunity to appear in a search result for a buyer who is actively looking for what you sell. Shopee allows up to 15 tags and there is no penalty for using all 15. Leaving tags empty only hurts you.

How long should a Shopee product description be?

Long enough to answer the three questions buyers have before they add to cart: what is it exactly, what does it do for me, and why should I trust this seller. For most products, that is 150–300 words organized into short paragraphs or bullet points. One long paragraph almost guarantees buyers won't read it on mobile.
